SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenarios.
Scenario 1
- You start to install Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, or you upgrade Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2.
- After Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is installed, you do not insert the Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Technologies CD-ROM.
- You install Windows Internet Explorer 7.
- You finish the installation of Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2.
Scenario 2
- You install Internet Explorer 7 on a computer that is running Windows Small Business Server 2003.
- You try to upgrade to Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2.
Scenario 3
- You successfully install Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, or you successfully upgrade Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2.
- You install Internet Explorer 7.
- You reinstall Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2.
In these scenarios, you receive the following error message on the Component Messages page:
Additionally, when the Windows Small Business Server 2003 Wizard is finished, you receive the following error message :
CAUSE
This problem typically occurs when you install Internet Explorer 7 before you finish installing Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2.
RESOLUTION
If this is the only message that you receive when you install or upgrade to Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, the error message is considered a false negative and can be safely ignored. No additional action is required.
WORKAROUND
To prevent this error message, complete the installation or upgrade of Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 before you install Internet Explorer 7.
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) contains a fix for this problem. When you install Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) before you install or upgrade to Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2, the error message does not occur.
