Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

SYMPTOMS
When you restore a transaction-log backup that is generated from an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack 4 (SP4) to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005, you receive an error message intermittently. The error message resembles the following:
CAUSE
This problem occurs because SQL Server 2005 incorrectly processes the bulk-logged transactions in the transaction log file during the restore operation.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites
- The hotfix that is based on the original release version of SQL Server 2005 requires the original release version of SQL Server 2005.
- The hotfix that is based on SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1) requires SQL Server 2005 SP1.

WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the Full Recovery model on the instance of SQL Server 2000 to generate the transaction-log backup, and then restore the backup to the instance of SQL Server 2005.
