  • Microsoft Office Word 2007

SYMPTOMS

You use a removable media storage device to save files from one of the 2007 Microsoft Office programs that are listed in the "Applies to" section. When you do this, you cannot remove the device.

Note This device might be one of the following devices:

  • A USB pen drive
  • A floppy disc
  • A CD
  • A memory stick
  • A compact flash drive
  • An SD memory card

If the device that you use is a USB device, you may receive the following error message when you try to remove the device:

Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device

The device ‘Generic volume’ cannot be stopped right now. Try stopping the device again later.

Additionally, if you remove the device forcibly and then try to save another file from the 2007 Office program, the Save As dialog box does not appear. Instead, you may receive the following error message:

Cannot create file FilePath. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the 2007 Office program does not correctly release the drive that is mapped to the device.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, close the 2007 Office program before you try to remove the device.
