Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

In a Microsoft SQL Server 2005-based application or in SQL Server Management Studio, you try to query data from a column of the XML data type or from a variable of the XML data type. When you do this, you may receive the following error message:

An error occurred while executing batch. Error message is: Unexpected end of file has occurred.

This problem may occur in certain circumstances when you to try to retrieve lots of XML data from an XML data type field.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, drop the XML schema validation from the column of the XML data type or from the variable of the XML data type.
