INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Disable all Data connections option that is included in Microsoft Office Excel 2007.

By default, the 2007 Microsoft Office programs are configured to block external content to help protect information such as images, linked media, hyperlinks, and data connections that are in workbooks and presentations. By blocking external content, the 2007 Office programs prevent the computer from running Web beacons. Also, these programs help protect the computer from other intrusive means by which malicious users invade your privacy and lure you into running malicious code without your knowledge or consent.

MORE INFORMATION

You can select the Disable all Data connections option in the Trust Center. When you select this option, Excel 2007 disables all external data connections that are included in the current workbook. Additionally, no data connection is connected in any workbook that you open. However, if you create new external data connections after you open a workbook, the new data connections are not enabled when you reopen the workbook.

Note This option is not applied to the new data connections that you create after you open a workbook. Also, this is a very restrictive option. Therefore, it may prevent some functionality from working as expected.

To select the Disable all Data connections option in Excel 2007, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
  2. In the left pane, click Trust Center.
  3. In the right pane, click Trust Center Settings, and then click External Content.
  4. Under Security settings for Data Connections, click Disable all Data Connections.
