Error message when you uninstall Exchange Server 2007 and then install the Client Access Services role on another server in the organization: "[ERROR] Exchange server was not found"

Article ID: 926311

Article Last Modified on 5/10/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

You uninstall Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 from a server. You then install the Client Access Services role on another server that is running Exchange Server 2007 in the same Exchange Server organization.

When you do this, the Client Access Services role installation process does not successfully finish the "EnableOABWebDistribution" step. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following error message:

[ERROR] Exchange server "FEE64-90 DEL:51cc3f25-0e08-4a54-876b-cf98c01030be" was not found. Please make sure you have typed it correctly.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the server object is directed to an object that was deleted from the Active Directory directory service.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove the invalid offline address book object. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and then click Exchange Management Shell.
  2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    get-OfflineAddressBook | where { $_.IsDefault } | remove-OfflineAddressBook

  3. When you are prompted to confirm, press Y, and then press ENTER.
  4. Close the Exchange Management Shell.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
