Error message when you try to save a customer payment in Small Business Accounting 2006: "The total payments in lines cannot exceed the amount received"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save a customer payment in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006, you receive the following error message:

The total payments in lines cannot exceed the amount received.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the total payment amount of the selected invoices is less than the amount that you entered in the Amount field.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow one of these steps:

  • Change the amount in the Amount field so that this amount matches the total payment amount of the selected invoices.


Note The amount in the Amount field must be the actual payment amount that you received from the customer.

  • Change the amounts in the Payment column of the selected invoices so that the total payment amount matches the amount that you entered in the Amount field.
