INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to record debit card transactions in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006.

Use one of the following methods to record debit card transactions in Small Business Accounting.

Method 1

Use the Transfer Funds command. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Banking menu, click Transfer Funds.
  2. In the Date box, type the date of the document or the date of the transaction.
  3. In the Transfer from area, select the bank account of the debit card in the Account name list.
  4. In the Transfer to area, select an expense account or another account for the purchase in the Account name list.
  5. In the Amount field, type an amount, and then click Transfer.

Method 2

Use the New Cash Purchase command. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Vendor menu, point to New, and then click New Cash Purchase.
  2. In the date box, type a date.
  3. In the Vendor name list, select a vendor.
  4. In the Payment method list, select Cash.
  5. In the Pay from list, select the bank account of the debit card.
  6. In the Item and Expenses pane, fill in the boxes for the item and for the expenses for the purchase.
  7. Click Save and Close.

Method 3

Use the New Journal Entry command. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Company menu, click New Journal Entry.
  2. In the Journey Entry dialog box, type an amount in the Debit box for the expense account.
  3. In the Credit field for the bank account of the debit card, type an amount.
  4. Click Save and Close.
