SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, the OnChange event in a field does not occur if the following conditions are true:

  • You create a Web form that has an <INPUT> field or a <TEXTAREA> field.
  • You create an OnChange event in the <INPUT> field or in the <TEXTAREA> field.
  • • You change the "ß" character to "ss" characters, or you change "ss" characters to the "ß" character, in the <INPUT> field or in the <TEXTAREA> field.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the string comparison of the MSHTML engine is based on the CompareString API. The CompareString API considers "ss" characters and the "ß" character to be the same character.
