SYMPTOMS
A Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 (Windows SBS)-based domain controller restarts every hour. Additionally, the following error messages are logged in the System log:
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when one of the following conditions is true:
- A Windows SBS-based domain controller resides in a domain that contains another Windows SBS-based domain controller.
- A Windows SBS-based domain controller resides in a domain that contains Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based domain controllers that hold operations master roles (also known as flexible single master operations or FSMO).
RESOLUTION
If you have multiple domain controllers in a domain that contains a Windows SBS-based domain controller, you must transfer the operations master roles from the other domain controllers to the Windows SBS-based domain controller. Additionally, if other Windows SBS-based domain controllers are in the domain, you must remove them.
