SYMPTOMS
The Platform Builder kernel debugger in Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 may stop unexpectedly.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The Platform Builder kernel debugger is in hardware-assisted debugging mode.
- The Platform Builder kernel debugger is connected through the ARM RealView Hardware probe and the eXDI2 driver.
RESOLUTION
Software update information
A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE 5.0 Platform Builder Monthly Update (October 2006). You can confirm this by scrolling to the "File information" section of this article. The package file name contains the product version, date, Knowledge Base article number, and processor type. The package file name format is:
Product version-yymmdd-kbnnnnnn-processor type

This software update fixes the OSAxs component for the ARM RealView Hardware Probe and the eXDI2 driver. Platform Builder kernel debugging depends on the following connectivity services:
- The eXDI service
- The OsAxs service
You can use these kernel debugger services to debug an application or a run-time image on a target device.
The OsAxs component provides operating system awareness to the debugger. Typically, the OsAxs service interacts between the eXDI service and a client, such as Platform Builder. Clients that must have operating system awareness use the OsAxs service instead of directly calling the eXDI service.
