The installation path may be shorter than the path that you specify when you install Windows Defender

Article ID: 925557

Article Last Modified on 10/23/2006

APPLIES TO

  • Windows Defender

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Windows Defender installation path may be shorter than the installation path that you specify in the Setup program.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Windows Defender Setup program limits the installation path to 240 characters when you perform a custom installation. If you specify an installation path that is longer than 240 characters, Setup truncates the installation path.

Microsoft Windows supports up to 255 characters in a local path.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
