SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you run a network program that uses a Winsock connection. When the program calls the recv Winsock function, you receive the following error code:

WSAECONNABORTED (10053)

Note The description that is associated with this error code is as follows:

An established connection was aborted by the software that is installed on the host computer. This may have occurred because of a data transmission time-out or because of a protocol error.

If you trace the network communication, you find that the Winsock client sends a reset to the server. The Winsock client does this after the client receives and acknowledges a data packet.
