  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2

SYMPTOMS

Many transaction log files are generated in a short time on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2. Additionally, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • The size of the database unexpectedly increases.
  • Server resources experience a heavy load.
  • The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service may temporarily stop responding. This behavior causes a disruption of the messaging service.

This problem occurs if you perform one of the following actions in Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access:

  • You attach to an e-mail message a file that exceeds the maximum limit that is configured for your mailbox or for the Microsoft Exchange organization.
  • You post to a public folder an item that exceeds the maximum limit that is configured for the public folder.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply this hotfix, Outlook Web Access users receive an error message when they try to attach or post an item that exceeds the maximum size limit. The large item is transferred to the server because security restrictions prohibit verification of the attachment on the client computer. However, the large item is not committed to the database if the maximum size limit is exceeded.
