APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a C++ application in Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003. The following conditions are true:
    • The C++ application is a multithreaded application.
    • Multiple threads call the _fopen function in the C run-time library.
  • You compile and then run the application
  • A thread calls the _fopen function.
  • Another thread calls the _fopen function before the first call is completed successfully.

In this scenario, you may experience poor performance.

Note This problem is more noticeable when the file that is opened by the first thread takes a long time to open. For example, if this file is located on a remote network, you may experience poor performance.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a race condition in the C run-time library.
