Article ID: 925187

Article Last Modified on 10/15/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Word 2007
  • Microsoft Office Word 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you use Information Rights Management (IRM) to restrict access to a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document or to a Microsoft Office Word 2003 document, you are prompted to log on by using your Microsoft .NET Passport credentials. When you use the e-mail address that is associated with your .NET Passport account to log on to the IRM account, you receive the following error message:

"The wizard cannot download an RM account certificate because you have not verified the email address for your Microsoft .Net Passport."

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you use an e-mail address that is not from a Hotmail e-mail account or from an MSN e-mail account. You can use only Hotmail e-mail accounts or MSN e-mail accounts together with IRM to restrict access to the document.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, create a Hotmail e-mail account or an MSN e-mail account. Then, associate that e-mail account with your .NET Passport account. For more information about how to work with your .NET Passport account, visit the following Web site:
