- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
SYMPTOMS
You use the System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute.Namespace property for an anonymous Web Service type in the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. After you do this, you may receive an "InvalidOperationException" error message during service description generation.
For example, you may specify that an ASP.NET Web Service file (.asmx) use the System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute.Namespace property for an anonymous Web Service type. When you try to browse the .asmx file, you may receive the following error message during service description generation:
Note The System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute.Namespace property is used to obtain or to set the namespace for the XML root element.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the schema that is generated for the Web Service type does not match the serialized instance. This behavior occurs if the System.Xml.Serialization.XmlRootAttribute.Namespace property is used on an anonymous Web Service type. Therefore, the data exchange between the client and the server is impossible during the service description generation.
