SYMPTOMS
After you apply Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Service Pack 2a (SP2a) to a computer that is running Project Server 2003, you cannot log on to Microsoft Office Project Web Access. And, you receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This issue occurs if the Project Server 2003 database was not upgraded.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, upgrade the database.
Note We recommend that you back up the database before you apply any updates. If you do not upgrade the database, you may experience issues when you use Project Server 2003.

To upgrade the database, follow these steps for each computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server and for each Project Server 2003 database:
- Download the ProjectServer2003-KB887621-SQLFile-ENU.exe file, or the equivalent file in the language that you want. This file is contained in the Project Server 2003 Service Pack 2a (SP2a) software update. To obtain this file, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note This file is located under "Files in This Download."
- Double-click the file, and then extract the files to a temporary folder.
- Open the folder to which you extracted the files, and then run Upgdb112.cmd against the Project Server 2003 database. If the database is a partitioned database, run the script against each Project Server 2003 database.
To run Upgdb112.cmd, follow these steps:- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
Upgdb112.cmd
name of the computer that is running SQL Server
database name
logon
password
If users are currently logged on to SQL Server by using Microsoft Windows authentication, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
Upgdb112.cmd
name of the computer that is running SQL Server
database name
