SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You install Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer. You create a user object in the ADAM directory. Additionally, you set the pwdLastSet attribute of the user object to 0 (zero).

In this scenario, when you log on to the ADAM directory by using an incorrect password for the user object that you created, ADAM returns the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) error 773, ERROR_PASSWORD_MUST_CHANGE, instead of the LDAP error 52e, ERROR_LOGON_FAILURE.
