Important This article only applies to the Japanese version of Ninety-Nine Nights. We have fixed the English version of Ninety-Nine Nights. Therefore, this issue no longer exists in that version.

When you start a new Ninety-Nine Nights game, you must start as the red female knight character who is named "Inphyy." To unlock new characters, you must complete mission objectives for each successive character. As you move through the game, you can play as different characters as those characters become unlocked.
Important You must save the game after you complete each character's mission objectives.
After you complete a character's mission objectives, save each character's game file to a different memory slot. If you do not save each character's game file to a different memory slot, you may overwrite an existing character's saved game file and lose the game data that is required to unlock the next character. Therefore, you need one save slot for each character.
If new characters do not appear on the Character Select screen or if new characters appear and then disappear from the Character Select screen, follow the methods that are described in this article before you stop playing the game.
Note This behavior is by design.
The following table lists the characters and the point at which each character appears in Ninety-Nine Nights:

| Secret character | After you complete the final mission for Klarann and Tyuruu |
After you complete the final mission for each character (after the end credits), you must play the game with a new character or with one of the unlocked characters that appear on the Character Select screen. After you complete each mission, you must save the game.
If a secret character does not appear after you complete the appropriate mission, or if a secret character disappears, follow the method that applies to your situation.
Dwingvatt does not appear on the Character Select screen
You have not met one or more of the conditions for Inphyy, Aspharr, or Myifee. After you complete the final mission for the appropriate character, Dwingvatt will appear.
Important You must save the game after you complete this mission. If you do not save the game, the Dwingvatt character will disappear.
Dwingvatt disappears after he appears on the Character Select screen
You have not met one or more of the conditions for Inphyy, Aspharr, or Myifee, whichever character that you played last. After you complete the final mission for the appropriate character, Dwingvatt will appear again.
Important You must save the game after you complete this mission. If you do not save the game, the Dwingvatt character will disappear again.
Klarann and Tyuruu do not appear on the Character Select screen or they disappear from the Character Select screen
You have not met one or more of the conditions for Dwingvatt. After you complete the final mission for Dwingvatt, the new character will appear again.
Important You must save the game after you complete this mission. If you do not save the game, the new character will disappear again.
The secret character does not appear on the Character Select screen
You have not met one or more of the conditions for Klarann or for Tyuruu. After you complete the final mission for the appropriate character, the secret character will appear.
Important You must save the game after you complete this mission. If you do not save the game, the secret character will disappear.
The secret character disappears after appearing on the Character Select screen
You have not met one or more of the conditions for Klarann or for Tyuruu, whichever character that you played last. After you complete the final mission for the appropriate character, the secret character will appear again.
Important You must save the game after you complete this mission. If you do not save the game, the secret character will disappear again.
