Q92452

M_PROJECT kbusage

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0
  • Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, version 3.0

SUMMARY

Although you can delay the work of a resource so that it does not begin at the start of the task, the accrual of per-use cost is not delayed. Once a task starts, the cost per use is accrued for all the resources that belong to that task.

MORE INFORMATION

When you select the Start or Prorated option in the Resources Accrue At box, and you set the Auto Track Resources preference to Yes (from the Options menu choose Preferences), the cost per use is accrued when the task (or any resource work) begins. To see this sequence more clearly, follow the steps below:

From the Options menu, choose Preferences. Change the Auto Track Resources setting to Yes. In the Preferences dialog box, choose the OK button.

Create a task with a duration of 10 days.

From the View menu, choose Task Entry.

Activate the Task Form and choose Resource Schedule from the Format menu.

Assign two resources to this task:

  1. In the first resource, in the the Work field, type 80h. In the the Delay field, type 0h.
  2. In the second resource, in the Work field, type 40h. In the Delay field type 5h.
  3. Apply a Cost Per Use of $10 to each resource. Set the Standard Rate and Overtime Rate fields to $0.00.

From the Format menu, choose Resource.

In the first resource, in the Act. Work field, type 1h. Press the ENTER key and choose the OK button.

From the Format menu, select Resource Cost.

Note that both resources now have an actual cost of $10, even though the second resource has not completed any work.

If you set the Accrue At option to End, the cost per use is applied when the task or work is completed.
