SYMPTOMS

When you try to publish the default calendar in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to a Windows SharePoint Services site, you receive the following error message:

Failed to publish the calendar "Calendar". There was a problem uploading the file to the server.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Create a calendar on the Windows SharePoint Services site, and then connect the calendar to Outlook

You can create a calendar on the Windows SharePoint Services site and then connect the calendar to Outlook. This method is frequently more appropriate when several people must change the calendar. After you connect the Windows SharePoint Services calendar to Outlook 2007, you can select appointments in Outlook and then move them to the Windows SharePoint Services calendar.

To create a calendar on the Windows SharePoint Services site and then connect it to Outlook, follow these steps:

1. Open the Windows SharePoint Services site in a browser.
2. Click Site Actions, and then click Create.
3. Under Tracking, click Calendar.
4. In the Name box, type a name for the calendar.
5. In the Description box, type a description for the calendar.
6. Click Create. Notice that the new calendar appears.
7. Click Actions, and then click Connect to Outlook.
8. When Outlook 2007 prompts if you want to connect to this calendar, click Yes.

Method 2: Save the Outlook default calendar in iCalendar (.ics) format, and then upload the file to the Windows SharePoint Services site

You can save the Outlook default calendar in the iCalendar (.ics) format. After you save the default calendar in this format, you can add the .ics file to a Windows SharePoint Services document library. Then, you can create and subscribe to an Internet Calendar in Outlook that uses the .ics file. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start Outlook 2007.
2. On the Go menu, click Calendar.
3. On the File menu, click Save As.
4. Type a file name, and then click Save. This saves the default calendar in the iCalendar (.ics) format.
5. Open the Windows SharePoint Services site in a browser.
6. Click Shared Documents. Alternatively, click the name of the document library where you want to upload the .ics file.
7. Click Upload.
8. Click Browse, locate the .ics file that you want to upload, and then click Open.
9. Click OK.
10. Right-click the .ics file, and then click Copy Shortcut.
11. In Outlook 2007, click Account Settings on the Tools menu.
12. On the Internet Calendars tab, click New.
13. Press CTRL+V to paste the shortcut that you copied in step 10.
14. Click Add.
15. In the Subscription Options dialog box, select the options that you want, and then click OK.
16. Click Close.
