INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated August 21, 2006.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

  • E-mail messages that are printed to TIFF format by using the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer in Outlook 2003 may not be saved in the correct format

    Consider the following scenario:
    • You specify the Microsoft Office Document Image (MODI) Writer as the default printer.
    • You set the MODI Writer to print in MDI format.
    • You start Outlook 2003.
    • You set the MODI Writer to print in TIFF format.
    • In Outlook 2003, you print an e-mail message without clicking Print on the File menu. For example, you click the Print button on the toolbar.

In this scenario, the e-mail message is not saved in the correct format. Additionally, you cannot open the .tif file in a TIFF viewer application. For example, if you try to open the .tif file in Microsoft Paint, you receive the following error message:

    Paint cannot read this file.
This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported.

  • Outlook 2003 may not print to the default printer when you print .msg files

    Consider the following scenario:
    • You have two printers.
    • You specify the first printer (printer A) as the default printer.
    • You start Outlook 2003.
    • You specify the second printer (printer B) as the default printer.
    • In Outlook 2003, you save an e-mail message in Outlook Message (.msg) format.
    • You print the .msg file from outside Outlook. For example, in Windows Explorer, you right-click the .msg file, and then click Print.
In this scenario, the .msg file is printed on the first printer (printer A) instead of on the second printer (printer B).
