SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Team Explorer to add a domain user to a team foundation group in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server, you may receive the following error message:

Team foundation could not resolve the user or group "UserName" The user or group might be a member of a different domain or the server might not have access to that domain. Verify the domain membership of the server and any domain trusts.

This problem occurs if the organization unit settings of the domain user in the Active Directory include a special character. For example, the organizational unit settings may include one of the following special characters:

  • =
  • +
  • /
  • \
  • @

Note You use Team Explorer to access the team projects on which you are working. When you join a team project or move from one team project to another, you must update the team projects that display in Team Explorer.
