One or more shapes may not retain their intended size when you resize a grouped drawing of shapes in Visio 2007

Article ID: 924116

Article Last Modified on 10/15/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2007

SYMPTOMS

When you resize a grouped drawing of shapes in Microsoft Office Visio 2007, one or more of the shapes may not retain their intended size.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true:

  • The width value or the height value in the ShapeSheet was changed in the original grouped drawing of shapes.
  • The grouped drawing of shapes was copied from the original grouped drawing of shapes and then pasted.

Note This behavior does not occur when you copy the grouped drawing of shapes by pressing CTRL and dragging instead of by performing a copy-and-paste operation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, replace the width value or the height value in the ShapeSheet with a formula that includes a reference.

Note To open the ShapeSheet for a shape, select the shape, and then click Show ShapeSheet on the Window menu.

MORE INFORMATION

When you copy and then paste the grouped drawing of shapes in Visio 2007, the width value and the height value are removed and then replaced with a "parent width" scale formula or a "parent height" scale formula. This occurs so that the correct scaling is maintained when you copy and then paste the grouped drawing of shapes to a different Visio 2007 drawing or to a different page scale.

This behavior may occur when you copy and then paste the grouped drawing of shapes to an architectural drawing or to a space plan drawing.
