SYMPTOMS
When you try to package a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 presentation for use on a CD, the Package for CD command is unavailable under Publish on the Microsoft Office Button.
CAUSE
This issue occurs if one or more of the following conditions are true:
- The presentation was marked as final.
- The presentation resides on a network share. Additionally, either another user has the presentation open or the presentation was opened as read-only.
- The presentation contains restricted embedded fonts. Additionally, the presentation was opened as read-only.
- The presentation was digitally signed.
- The presentation was protected by Information Rights Management (IRM).
Note Presentations that are protected by IRM cannot be packaged for a CD. Additionally, the IRM protection cannot be removed to allow the presentation to be packaged for a CD.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.
Disable the "Mark as Final" option
If the presentation was marked as final, you must disable the Mark as Final option before you can package the presentation for a CD. To do this, click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Finish, and then click Mark as Final if the option is already selected.
After you package the presentation, you can again mark the presentation as final. To do this, click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Finish, and then click Mark as Final.
Save the presentation as a new copy
If the presentation was opened as read-only or is being used by another person, you must save a new copy of the presentation. Then, package that presentation for a CD. To so this, follow these steps:
- Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Save as.
- Type a new name for the presentation, and then click Save.
Replace restricted embedded fonts
If the presentation contains restricted embedded fonts, and you open the presentation as read-only, you cannot package the presentation for a CD. To work around this issue, you can either open a copy of the presentation or replace the restricted embedded fonts.
If the suspected fonts are not present on your computer, compare the fonts on your computer with the fonts that are being used in the presentation to determine which fonts must be replaced.
If the suspected fonts are present on your computer, you can use a tool to examine the embedding license properties of any installed font. To obtain this tool, visit the following Microsoft site:
To determine the fonts that are being used in the presentation, you can use the Replace Fonts tool. On the Home tab, click Replace Fonts in the Replace list in the Editing group.
Note The fonts that are listed in the Replace Fonts tool do not include the fonts that are part of the presentation design theme.
To use the Replace Fonts tool to replace a font, click the font that you want to replace in the Replace list, click the replacement font in the With list, and then click Replace. Repeat this procedure for each font that you want to replace.
To replace the fonts that are associated with the design theme, follow these steps:
- On the View tab, click Slide Master in the Presentation Views group.
- On the Slide Master tab, select the new font theme in the Font theme list in the Edit Theme group.
- In the Close group, click Close.

Remove the digital signature from the presentation
If you want to remove the digital signature from the presentation, we recommend that you use a copy of the presentation. To remove the digital signature, follow these steps:
- Open the presentation that you want to package.
- Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Save as.
- Type a new name for the presentation, and then click Save.
- Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Finish, and the click View Signatures. The current digital signatures that are attached to the presentation are displayed in the Signatures pane.
- Right-click the digital signature, and then click Remove Signature.
- When you are prompted to remove the signature, click Yes, and then click OK.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each signature in the pane.
