SYMPTOMS

When you try to perform a clean installation of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or a clean installation of an x64-based version of Microsoft Windows, the installation may fail. Setup stops responding.

CAUSE

The problem may occur if the computer is using a Hewlett-Packard StorageWorks HT1000 chipset. The problem occurs because Windows Server 2003 may clear a range of memory that is still being referenced by the StorageWorks USB host controller.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, replace the Usbehci.sys file in the slipstream installation source with the Usbehci.sys file version that is included in this hotfix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
