SYMPTOMS

When you use a smart card to log on to a computer that is running Terminal Services from a Microsoft Windows XP-based client computer, the Terminal Services session may stop responding.

This problem typically occurs in a reconnection scenario where you have already established at least one Terminal Services session with the computer that is running terminal services. Successive Terminal Services sessions with the same computer may stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the transaction lock to the smart card is not released after a Terminal Services session ends. Therefore, you may experience this problem during successive Terminal Services sessions with the same computer.
