Article ID: 921269

Article Last Modified on 12/4/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Host Print Service (Snaprint.exe) may stop unexpectedly when you stop an active APPC print session in Microsoft SNA Manager. An event that resembles the following may be logged in the Application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: ComputerName
Description: Faulting application snaprint.exe, version VersionNumber, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.

Additionally, the stack output in the dump file may resemble the following stack output:

ChildEBP RetAddr  Args to Child
0eb7ff90 63b7d84c 00000001 00000000 00000000 ppd5250!CPPVSess::StopSession+0x61
0eb7ffb8 77e66063 00000000 00000000 00000000 ppd5250!CPPVExec::PPVWorkRoutine+0x2df 0eb7ffec 00000000 63b7d56d 00000000 00000000 kernel32!BaseThreadStart+0x34

The stack output data resembles this stack output if the following conditions are true:

  • Dr. Watson (Drwtsn32.exe) is the default debugger.
  • Dr. Watson is configured to create a dump file.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a race condition may occur when you stop an active APPC print session. The race condition may cause the Host Print Service to try to reference an internal control block that has been released by another thread.
