The "E-mail via Mail Merge" functionality does not work as expected when you distribute a campaign activity in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 client for Microsoft Office Outlook

Article ID: 921261

Article Last Modified on 7/17/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook, when used with:
    • Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0

The hotfix that is discussed in this article is not available for the Chinese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM or for the Japanese version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

SYMPTOMS

When you distribute a campaign activity by using the "E-mail via Mail Merge" functionality in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 client for Microsoft Office Outlook, the "E-mail via Mail Merge" functionality does not work as expected. When this problem occurs, the e-mail message correctly appears in the "Sent Items" folder. But the e-mail message does not contain a Microsoft Dynamics CRM tracking token. Therefore, the e-mail message is not created in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You use a non-English version of Microsoft Office Word.
  • You use a non-English version of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook.

For example, this problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You distribute a campaign activity by using the "E-mail via Mail Merge" functionality.
  • You use a Portuguese version of Word.
  • You use a Portuguese version of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook.

Note This problem does not occur if you use the English version of Word in the English version of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the c_wszUserEmailAddress localization string is incorrect in the MailMerge.cpp file. This string does not match the Word localization string in the "Word::MailMergeDataFields" object.

RESOLUTION

This problem is fixed in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Update Rollup 2. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
