SYMPTOMS

You may experience an application failure with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You add a file that has a .cpp file name extension to a project that is not a Microsoft Visual C++ project.
  • With the .cpp file open, you click the Scopes drop-down list box that appears at the top of the file.


RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.

This hotfix replaces the following hotfix:

912482 FIX: You may experience an application failure in Visual Studio 2005 when you click the Scopes drop-down list box that appears at the top of a .cpp file
