SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, you create a Visual C++ 2005 Win32 static library project. You add custom build steps to the project. In this scenario, the custom build steps may not run. You can only run the custom build steps in the Visual Studio 2005 IDE as long as the project is loaded and the project settings have not changed. Additionally, you may also experience this problem after you upgrade a Win32 static library project from Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 to Visual Studio 2005.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
