SYMPTOMS

A computer that is running an x64-based version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 may stop responding.

CAUSE

The Cache Manager uses queued spin locks to synchronize its reference counts on Buffer Control Block (BCB) objects and on Virtual Address Control Block (VACB) objects. Active count increments and decrements occur just after the queued spin lock acquisitions. This problem may occur when these increments and decrements are not synchronized in an x64-based version of Windows Server 2003.
