  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition

SYMPTOMS

On a server that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, you try to use the Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 2005 local area network (LAN) booster service together with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. When you do this, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Unable to use SourceSafe LAN service, performance of SourceSafe operations will not be optimal.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the LAN booster service uses remote procedure calls (RPC) to improve access to a Visual SourceSafe database from Visual Studio 2005 for local network users. Because of a problem with RPC in Windows 2000, the LAN booster service fails when it is installed on a server that is running Windows 2000.
