SYMPTOMS
The Wmiprvse.exe process may terminate unexpectedly on a primary Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 server or on a Host Integration Server 2004 server that is configured as the primary configuration server for the Host Integration Server subdomain. When the Wmiprvse.exe process terminates, the following Error event may be logged in the Application log:
Event ID: 1000
Event Source: Application Error
Description: Faulting application wmiprvse.exe, version Version, faulting module mngbase.dll, version Version, fault address Address.
Note When the Wmiprvse.exe process terminates, Host Integration Server features that use the Host Integration Server Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) providers do not function correctly. For example, the SNA LU6.2 Resync TP service cannot run WMI queries when the Wmiprvse.exe process terminates. When WMI queries do not run, the SNA LU6.2 Resync TP service cannot perform the exchange log sequence that is required to establish 2-Phase Commit (2PC) transactions.
RESOLUTION
Host Integration Server 2000
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Host Integration Server 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.
