SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows Server 2003, a stack overflow may occur in the Svchost.exe process that is hosting the COM+ Event System service. The stack overflow orphans a remote procedure call (RPC) critical section and deadlocks any other RPC calls from the process. At this point, every new instance of the Dllhost.exe process that tries to spawn becomes blocked when the instances try to subscribe to the COM+ Event System service. Dozens of Dllhost.exe processes continue to spawn until the computer’s heap is exhausted.
