Error message when you start Groove: "Groove has detected another device with the same DeviceURL as yours"

SYMPTOMS

You install Groove and start it on a computer. You then create an image from this computer and distribute this image to other computers. When you do this, you may receive the following error message when you start Groove again:

Groove has detected another device with the same DeviceURL as yours. The other device is running on your LAN with an IP address of IP address. Please contact your administrator or Groove support immediately.

When this occurs, Groove may start. However, it is unreliable.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Groove Device URL must be unique for each computer. Groove creates the Device URL to identify the computer the first time Groove is started after Groove is installed.

When Groove is installed and started on a computer, and then an image is created from that computer and distributed to other computers on the local area network (LAN), all the installations have the same Device URL. Because these installations appear identical in Groove, Groove is unreliable and is frequently unusable on all the computers that have that image.

WORKAROUND

To resolve this issue, you must uninstall Groove on all computers except one.

After you uninstall Groove, reinstall it for each computer. Alternatively, install Groove from an image that was made before you started Groove.

To prevent this issue, do not start Groove between the time that you install Groove and the time that you create an image from the installation.
