SYMPTOMS
An access violation may occur when you try to run a Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 application that contains Object Management Group (OMG) Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) Interface Description Language (IDL) code. Consider the following scenario:
- You create an application in Microsoft Visual C++ 2005.
The application contains OMG CORBA IDL code that is similar to the following:
abstract interface Drawable { long draw(); }; valuetype Point supports Drawable{ public string name; public long x; public long y; }; interface GraphManager { Point get_point(); };- You try to run the application.
In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the Visual C++ compiler generates invalid code. The invalid code causes the application to contain a corrupted v-table. Therefore, the application cannot marshal the Point type when the application calls the get_point method. When this problem occurs, the application experiences an access violation.
RESOLUTION
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Visual Studio 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.
