Bug #: 155 (SQL Hotfix)

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

This article describes the following about this hotfix release:

  • The issues that are fixed by this hotfix package
  • The prerequisites for installing the hotfix package
  • Whether you must restart the computer after you install the hotfix package
  • Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other hotfix package
  • Whether you must make any registry changes
  • The files that are contained in the hotfix package

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You create a SQL Server login, and then map a user to the login in a database (Database A). This login does not have permissions to access other databases. You log on to the instance of SQL Server by using the SQL Server login. In this scenario, the SQL Server login may have more permissions than when you created the login. This problem occurs if all the following conditions are true:

  • You set the TRUSTWORTHY option for Database A to ON.
  • Database A is trusted at server scope. By default, Database A is trusted at server scope because the dbo user is mapped to a member of the sysadmin fixed server role.
  • You run a module that is marked as EXECUTE AS 'user_name'. This user is mapped to the sa login.
  • The module includes a BACKUP statement.

For example, you can perform operations as a member of the sysadmin fixed server role in the execution context of the SQL Server login.
