APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you use the IisWebService.ListExtensionFiles method to enumerate the WebSvcExtRestrictionList metabase property in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0, the list of extension files that the IisWebService.ListExtensionFiles method returns may be incomplete.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a bug in the way that the IIS Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) and Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) providers parse the text in the WebSvcExtRestrictionList metabase property.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows Server 2003. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.

MORE INFORMATION

After a clean installation of IIS, the text in the WebSvcExtRestrictionList metabase property is similar to the following.

WebSvcExtRestrictionList="0,*.dll

                                    0,*.exe

                                    0,C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\httpodbc.dll,0,HTTPODBC,Internet Data Connector

                                    0,C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\ssinc.dll,0,SSINC,Server Side Includes

                                    0,C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\httpext.dll,0,WEBDAV,WebDAV

                                    1,C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\asp.dll,0,ASP,Active Server Pages"

If the order of the items that are listed in the WebSvcExtRestrictionList metabase property is modified, the list of extension files that the IisWebService.ListExtensionFiles method returns may be incomplete. For example, if the 0,*.dll item and the 0,*.exe item are moved from the start of the text in the WebSvcExtRestrictionList metabase property, the IisWebService.ListExtensionFiles method does not return items that appear after the 0,*.dll item and the 0,*.exe item in the WebSvcExtRestrictionList metabase property.

Note The 0,*.dll item represents "All Unknown ISAPI Extensions." The 0,*.exe item represents "All Unknown CGI Extensions."

This issue can affect the installation of a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 management point. When you try to install a new management point or when you try to do a site reset after you install a hotfix for an existing management point, an error message that is similar to the following is logged in the Mpsetup.log file:

<11-17-2005 18:16:44> [18:16:44] @@ERR:25006 <11-17-2005 18:16:44> Setup was unable to create the Internet virtual directory CCM_System The error code is 80020009 <11-17-2005 18:16:50> MP.MSI exited with return code: 1603 <11-17-2005 18:16:50> Backing up MPMSI.log to D:\SMS\logs\MPMSI.log.LastError <11-17-2005 18:16:50> Fatal MSI Error - MP.MSI could not be installed.
