SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
This article discusses a software update that enables the TN3270 service in Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 to log the workstation name. Currently, when a TN3270 client connects to the TN3270 Server that is included with Host Integration Server, the following event is logged in the Application log:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: TN3270 Server
Event ID: 601
Description: TN3270(E) session established with client at TCP/IPAddress
(port PortNumber
) using LU LUName
.
Notice that the TN3270 client workstation name or the DNS name is not included in the description of the event message.
Note You must enable the Log normal audit events option in the TN3270 Server properties page to make sure that event messages for event 601 are logged.
MORE INFORMATION
This software update enables the TN3270 service to log the workstation name. Because many organizations use DHCP to assign TCP/IP addresses to workstations, it may be more useful to have the TN3270 client workstation name logged in the event message for event 601.
