SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
- You are using a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer that contains network file system (NFS)-shared files.
- These NFS-shared files reside on an NTFS file system volume.
- The NFS-shared files include two files that differ only in the case sensitivity of their names. For example, the two files are named a.txt and A.txt.
- You back up the NTFS volume by using a backup program and then restore the backup.
In this scenario, the backup program overwrites the first file, a.txt, with the second file, A.txt.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because Win32-based programs do not correctly handle case-sensitive file names.
