  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 (SP4), the Data Link Control (DLC) stack does not retransmit a lost I-frame packet.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the DLC server program on the Windows 2000-based computer communicates with a proprietary IBM computer that acts as a dump terminal. A user on the IBM computer uses the DLC program to perform transactions. If there is any problem during these transactions, the user clicks Dump. Then, the IBM computer sends a Set Asynchronous Balanced Mode Extended (SABME) packet to the Windows-based computer. When the Windows-based computer receives this request, a new DLC session starts. After this, the DLC server program sends an I-frame packet to the IBM computer. The I-frame packet reaches the IBM computer but is then lost. The I-frame packet is not retransmitted by the Windows 2000 DLC stack.
