SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, you receive the following Stop error message:

STOP 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 )
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Notes

  • Not all "STOP 0x0000007E" error messages are caused by the problem that is described in this article.
  • The results of a Stop error may vary, depending on the computer's system failure settings.
  • The parameter values in this error message may vary, depending on the computer's configuration. However, in this particular instance, the first parameter is always "C0000005."


CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Mrxsmb.sys file does not increment the reference count when you post a work context to perform a reconnect.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information
