SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 may stop responding when you enable the Sender ID Filtering setting on a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Note You can enable the Sender ID Filtering setting in the Global Settings folder in Exchange System Manager on the individual SMTP virtual server.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of a race condition that is caused by the SMTP protocol.
