SYMPTOMS

If you try to start the VBScript engine from a Microsoft C++-based program, you receive the following error message:

0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG) returned by vbscript!GetTypeInfo().

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You are running version 5.6.0.8827 of VBScript on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or in WOW64 on Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.


Note This version of VBScript is included with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and WOW64 in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.

  • The /3GB switch is used in the Boot.ini file. When this switch is used, the heap that the VBScript engine uses is located above 2 gigabytes (GB) in the computer's memory.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
