SYMPTOMS

You install Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard x64 Edition or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise x64 Edition. After you select the Typical configuration for a first server option in the Manage Your Server Wizard, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

Could not find BOMSNAP.DLL at Drive_Letter:\Folder_Path

You may not be able to locate the BOMsnap.dll file.

Note The required file can be found in the Amd64 folder. The file is in a compressed format and is named "bomsnap.dl_."

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, direct the installation to the Amd64 folder when you are prompted to locate the BOMsnap.dll file. The file is in a compressed format and is named "bomsnap.dl_."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
