SYMPTOMS
You receive an ERROR_INVALID_FUNCTION error when the following conditions are true:
- You try to call the PrepareTape function that uses the TAPE_LOCK parameter in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Platform Software Development Kit (SDK).
- You set the bImmediate parameter of the PrepareTape function to TRUE.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the PrepareTape function can set the immediate bit in a SCSI command descriptor block (CDB). This behavior violates the SCSI-2 specification.
RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.v
