Last reviewed: November 29, 1994
Article ID: Q90075

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1

SUMMARY

Running Microsoft Excel 4.0 with the Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1 may result in display errors if your computer system uses the Radius MultiView SVGA monitor. The Radius MultiView SVGA video driver is not supported with Windows 3.1.

Editing or changing cell formats leaves garbage characters in the changed cells.

Workaround

Use the generic Windows 3.1 SVGA driver in place of the Radius driver until you can get an updated driver from Radius.

To change video drivers to the Windows SVGA driver:

  1. From the Main group in Windows Program Manager, choose the Windows Setup Icon.
  2. From the File menu in Windows Program Manager, choose Open.

Note: You can also run Windows Setup by double-clicking the Windows Setup Icon.

  3. In the Windows Setup dialog box, choose Change System Settings from the Options menu.
  4. From the Display list in the Change System Settings dialog box, select Super VGA (800x600, 16 colors).
  5. Choose the OK button.
  6. Restart Windows to have your changes take effect.
