FIX: Error message when you install the DLC protocol for Host Integration Server 2004 on Windows Server 2003 or on Windows XP: "This driver is not digitally signed"

SYMPTOMS

When you install the data link connection (DLC) protocol that is included with Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or on Microsoft Windows XP, you receive the following error message:

This driver is not digitally signed!

You also receive this error message if you install the DLC protocol for Windows XP. To install the protocol, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the driver for the DLC protocol that is included with Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 and the driver for the DLC protocol for Windows XP are not digitally signed.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.
